Custom bakery boxes with inserts are food-safe paperboard boxes fitted with a die-cut tray or slotted card that holds each baked item in its own space. The insert is usually made from the same food-grade SBS or kraft board as the outer box and is cut with round holes for cupcakes and muffins, square cells for macarons and truffles, or a flat raised platform for cake slices and pastries. For tiered desserts, pie boxes or large party orders, we use E-flute corrugated board, which is light but stiff enough to carry real weight.
Butter, oil and glaze can soak through untreated board and leave stains on the outside. We apply a grease-resistant aqueous coating or a food-safe inner lining so the box stays clean and keeps its strength. Small vent holes can be added for warm bread and croissants so steam escapes and the crust stays crisp.
Not every baked good needs the same support. Inserts look especially elegant in luxury bakery boxes and gold bakery boxes, and heavier products may need boxes with double wall inserts. Cupcake and muffin inserts are available in 1, 2, 4, 6, 12 and 24 cavity layouts, with each hole cut to the base diameter of your liner. Macaron and chocolate boxes use a honeycomb or grid divider.
